We don’t often know what to do with our suffering.
Some of it we carry in silence. Some we try to spiritualize or ignore. But if we’re honest, some wounds still ache, shame that still whispers, years that feel wasted. Things that feel buried for good.
But here's what I’ve come to realize:
Every cross we carry comes with a promise.
There’s a resurrection for that.
The Pattern is the Promise
Jesus didn’t avoid the cross. He endured it.
He despised the shame, not because it didn’t hurt, but because He already saw what was waiting on the other side:
“For the joy that was set before Him, He endured the cross, despising the shame…”
—Hebrews 12:2
This is the pattern of the kingdom:
-
Life
-
Death
-
Resurrection
It’s not just Jesus’ story. It’s the pattern written into every true testimony.
Name the Suffering. Name the Resurrection.
When I look back on my life—
At poverty, heartbreak, captivity, isolation, the weight of heaviness, years lost to mourning or shame…
At times I felt too young to be trusted or too old to begin, too broken, too unsure, with unclean lips, or lacking eloquence—
When I think about the fires and the floods I’ve walked through—
I know now:
There’s a resurrection for that.
-
The poverty? It’s not permanent. God supplies all my needs according to His riches in glory. (Phil. 4:19)
-
The heartbreak? He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. (Psalm 147:3)
-
The captivity? He leads the prisoners out into prosperity. (Psalm 68:6)
-
The heaviness? He gives a garment of praise for the spirit of despair. (Isaiah 61:3)
And even for the years the locusts have eaten—
Yes. There’s a resurrection for that, too. (Joel 2:25)
The Joy Set Before You
You may be carrying something heavy right now.
A cross that no one sees but you.
You may be wondering if the pain will end. If what was lost will ever be restored. If the story can still turn around.
Let me say this clearly:
You’re not buried. You’re planted.
And resurrection is your portion.
Scripture says:
"Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God."
—Colossians 3:1
We have already been raised with Him. Your resurrection isn’t just coming—it’s already begun.
So What Do You Do With Your Cross?
You don’t pretend it’s light.
You don’t deny it exists.
But you despise the shame. Not by minimizing the pain, but by magnifying the joy that’s coming.
You declare the truth over it:
“This hurts. But this isn’t the end. There’s a resurrection for this.”
Resurrection Has a Name
There are resurrections, both literal and illustrated, all through Scripture:
-
Joseph: From prison to the palace, from forgotten to ruling the nation. (Genesis 41)
-
David: From the pasture to the throne. "I took you from the sheepfolds... and made you ruler over My people." (2 Samuel 7:8)
-
Gideon: From hiding in fear to leading a nation into victory. (Judges 6)
Each one of these stories points to something greater.
Resurrection is the testimony of Jesus Christ.
He is the resurrection and the life.
And when you're in Him, you're not walking toward your defeat—
You're walking toward your glory.
A Closing Invitation:
Take a moment.
Think about what you’ve been through.
Name it—poverty, shame, grief, betrayal, time lost, strength gone, hope fading.
And then speak this simple truth:
“There’s a resurrection for that.”
For you have been raised with Christ.
