There’s a popular belief that in order to be blessed, you’ve got to do something first.
Pray more. Give more. Obey better. Clean up your act. Jump through spiritual hoops.
But let’s be honest: that mindset—while it sounds holy—is a trap.
Because the truth is: We are not blessed because of our works. We are blessed because of Christ’s finished work.
✝️ The Emphasis Is Christ, Not Conditions
When Paul preached, he said he resolved to know nothing but Jesus Christ and Him crucified (1 Corinthians 2:2). Why? Because the entire foundation of our life, purpose, and blessing is built on what He did—not what we do.
Jesus didn’t come to give us better keys to being blessed. He is the Key. Through His death and resurrection:
-
We’ve been restored to the image of God (Colossians 3:10)
-
We are already blessed with every spiritual blessing (Ephesians 1:3)
-
We are redeemed from the curse (Galatians 3:13)
-
We are clean (John 15:3)
-
We are righteous in Him (2 Corinthians 5:21)
-
And God remembers our sins no more (Hebrews 10:17)
We don’t strive to be blessed. We don’t behave our way into favor. In Christ, we are already blessed.
πͺ Restored to Reflect
Genesis 1:28 gives us the original pattern:
"God blessed them and said to them, 'Be fruitful and multiply, replenish the earth, subdue it, and have dominion...'"
That mandate came after God made man in His image. It was the fruit of identity.
Now we're in Christ—the exact image of God (Colossians 1:15)—our identity is restored, and so is the mandate:
-
Be fruitful πΎ
-
Multiply π
-
Replenish π§³
-
Subdue π§΄
-
Have dominion π
We're not chasing blessings. We're walking in a Kingdom that is already ours (Luke 12:32). And when we live from that place of alignment, the fruit shows up—not by force, but by faith.
𧱠If We’re Striving, We’re Off Track
Striving suggests we're still trying to earn what God already gave.
But Jesus said, "It is finished." (John 19:30)
And from that place of completion, we’re called to live:
-
In His righteousness (not our own)
-
By His Spirit (not our strength)
-
With His mind (not our fears)
Paul reminds us in Acts 17:28:
“In Him we live and move and have our being.”
If we find ourselves chasing after blessings like they’re out ahead of us somewhere, we’ve forgotten that they’re already ours in Christ—and the Spirit is leading us to bear fruit, not earn favor.
♻️ Final Thought
This is not a gospel of loopholes or labor.
It’s the Gospel proclaimed to the poor, the brokenhearted, the captive, and the prisoner—
people who have nothing to give, only room to receive.
So let’s stop negotiating with God, trying to earn what Jesus already paid for.
Let’s stop adding fine print to a covenant that’s sealed in His blood.
You are already blessed.
And from that place, you are called to reflect the image of God in the earth.
To be fruitful. Multiply. Replenish. Subdue. Have dominion.
And most of all—
To rest in the One who finished the work, so you can simply walk in it.
