🐍The Heifer, the Chickenhead, and the Serpent

A modern parable about love, lessons, letting go, and recognizing what is suitable.

What if the person who wasn't right for you was still part of your preparation?

What if the relationships that ended weren't necessarily mistakes? What if some encounters were lessons? Some endings were protection? What if even the experiences that hurt were doing a work in us—and for us?

The Heifer, the Chickenhead, and the Serpent was born from looking at the familiar creation story through the lens of process.

Before the man recognized the one who was suitable for him, God brought every living creature before him to see what he would call them.

He encountered.

He observed.

He named.

And then, at last, he recognized.

Maybe there is something in that for us.

Maybe understanding process gives us permission to let go. To stop carrying the bitterness of an experience and receive the betterness of the work it produced. To appreciate what an encounter taught us without needing to hold onto the person forever.

Maybe someone can have been part of our story without being the end of it.

And maybe believing there is someone suitable changes the way we experience the waiting. We don't have to force every encounter into permanence. We can learn. We can grow. We can let go. We can trust.

Because perhaps—

Every encounter was a step.
Every lesson, preparation.
Even the ones that hurt.

↔️ Either Way

Everyone has that scripture. The one that doesn’t just encourage them—it knows them. The one that feels less like a verse and more like a voice. For me, it’s Isaiah 43:1, then verse 2—in that order. And it’s my favorite not because it’s poetic—though it is. Not because it’s comforting—though it comforts deeply. It’s my favorite because it’s God loving me in my love language. There’s something unmistakably intimate about the way God speaks here. He calls out Jacob and Israel in the same breath and then makes a declaration that stops me every time: “Fear not… I have redeemed you… I have called you by your name; thou art Mine. ” That line alone would have been enough. 🔥 Resurrection Side

There is something I’ve been recognizing over the last few days. Many believers are still trying to get God to move, still striving to become accepted, still attempting to fulfill through effort what Christ already fulfilled through His death and resurrection. We say, “It is finished,” but often live as though everything still depends on us finishing it. The New Testament does not teach us to strive toward what Christ accomplished. It teaches us to live from what He accomplished. From this side of the resurrection. From Kingdom side. From being raised with Christ. From our lives being hidden with God in Christ.
